The Aissawa is a religious order, who are related to the holy Sufi Sidi Ben Aissa, whose Marabout (shrine dedicated to a monk) is in Meknès. The snake is a great importance to them. The snakes usually come from southern Morocco. To catch them, they prepare for days and follow the tracks in the sand. Sometimes it takes days until their search is successful.
“Bouia Omar is the Tamer of the Demons” – Mohamed Sahari. In the Marabout of Bouia Omar mentally ill people are treated with archaic methods. Mohamed Sahari himself was chained up here for seven years. Afterwards he joined a music group and went to Marrakech to the Djemaa El Fna. In his Halqa he falls into a state of trance and drinks boiling water.
The group of Abderahim Träsli plays “Tqitikat”, the popular music style of Marrakech. Often they are accompanied by the audiences’ clapping, the “Dakkla Marrakschia”, a special rhythm exclusively found in Marrakech.
The music group Zakaria plays songs from Larsad and Naz El Ghiwane, who are popular among the people because of their critical lyrics, but are not played on the radio or TV.
