Based on the orally transmitted stories that are told by the storytellers on the Jemaa El-Fna square in Marrakech, a series of audio-CDs will be produced. The original stories will be translated into English, French and German. Each language version will have it’s own native speaking narrator.
Unlike common audio books in which the written text is often read by only one narrator, this audio product consists of several audio layers.
The first layer is the original voice of the storyteller in Marrakech who is presenting the story during a Halqa. He speaks vividly and with a lot of power so his audience won’t turn away. The stories are also recorded in a moderate tone, like a bedtime story you would tell your children. The first layer is a mix of these two recordings.
The second, dominant layer is the voice of the narrator, who tells the translated story. Through him we can follow the storyline.
The third layer consists of original sound recordings that underline the atmosphere of the foreign place and make it perceptible. There will be sounds from the places the stories are told and also from where they take place.
Since the draft for this audio-book are orally told stories instead of written texts, the acoustic experience plays a decisive role. The most important aspect is the dramaturgical and artistic editing of the audio layers. |
